Section 3: Boat handling, manoeuvring, mooring, berthing and anchoring
This subject causes more than its fair share of grief.
A boat is not a car, but, as with a car, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Mistakes can be expensive and embarrassing. Sadly things will inevitably sometimes go wrong but if you understand the principles involved you have the best chance of not coming unstuck when mooring or berthing up.
The section includes the following:
Close quarters manoeuvring under sail and power; effect of wind and tide
Picking up a mooring under sail
Manoeuvring into an alongside berth under power
Anchoring
